Andre GITEMBAGARA is professional Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social sciences, population studies. He has been trained in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Analysis and Specific Aims at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY USA in the summer school and has been also trained in Fundamental of Clinical Research at the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York NY, USA.

He is currently the Programme Coordinator of RASD and is carrying out high responsibilities in nursing readership. He is the President of Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union and member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Nurses and Midwives.

In 2010, He has been appointed as the Director of Nursing in Kibagabaga Hospital and has been member of many national health boards including: White Ribbon Alliance Rwanda for Safe Motherhood, National Pharmacovilance Committee, steering committee of Rwanda national council for nurses and midwives. He has participated in development of numerous health and nursing policies, procedures and standards and several national and international trainings, seminars and conferences.

Feb. 2001-July 2003: Practicing nursing at University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) in ICU, Surgery and ENT.

Since 2013: President of Nurses and Midwives Union with 4 years term of office.

From Aug. 2008- 2012: President of Nursing and Midwives Association

2009 up to now: Board Member of Nurses and Midwives Council and Chairman of its disciplinary committee

2008 -2012: Board Member of White Ribbon Alliance Rwanda for safe mother hood.

2008-2011: Member of National Pharmacovilance Committee.

May 2004-May 2008: Vice President of Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Association

From 2001-2004: General Secretary of Nurses and Midwives Association in Kigali Town and Kigali Rural branch

2002-2003: Active member of the steering committee of Rwanda national council for nurses and midwives, in communication and information subcommittee

Andre Gitembagara has the interest in health policies and research development. Though, he is planning to pursuit with a master’s degree in public health with commitment of continuing to contribute a lot in achievement of millennium goals 4, 5 and 6.
